NCT Halloween Spooktacular THIS WEEKEND!

spookbanner

Because if you are going to die, you might as well die laughing…*

*purchase tickets at your own risk…don’t say we didn’t warn you

Every Halloween season, the National Comedy Theatre proudly presents what is commonly referred to as “our dumbest show of the year!”

Our annual Spooktacular features games that we only play once a year and for good reason.  There are creepy themes to all suggestions, death defying sketches – including one where a performer’s head is submerged in a bucket of water for the entire scene, and the weirdest ending to a comedy show that you have ever seen!

This year, the shows will be on Friday, October 30th and Saturday, October 31st at 7:30 & 9:45 p.m.

Tickets are just $15 for adults and $12 for students/seniors.  These shows always sell out, so get your reservations soon!

Facebook Five for Five Contest!

facebook_logo

In just a couple short months, the National Comedy Theatre has reached almost 850 fans! But, we’re never satisfied. So, we’re holding a contest…probably the easiest contest ever for you, our fans, to win 5 tickets to our show! Here’s the deal:

TO WIN:

  1. Post a link to our fanpage on your wall in support of the show asking 5 of your friends to click on the link, “Become a Fan” of NCT, and THEN comment on your status/post that they have done so.  Here’s the link: NCT on Facebook
  2. Take a screenshot of your post and the 5 comments and email it to us at manhattancomedy@gmail.com.
  3. Once received, we’ll send you 5 free tickets (plus a bonus ticket for yourself) so that you and your 5 friends can come out and see the show, just so that we can prove to them that we are worth the clicks.

Seriously, how easy was that?

Thanks for all your help in spreading the funny.

ABOUT YOU:

How long have you been doing improv?
I’ve been doing improv for about 7 years now.

What made you want to do improv?
It was actually due to comments made to me by Liev Schreiber after one of my first ever improv shows where he encouraged me to keep continue performing and doing improv. After that I just ran with it.

Where did you study?
I first studied improv with New York Stage & Film. After that I returned to Butler University and founded and ran an improv group there called More Than Foreplay. I also studied abroad for a while at the London Dramatic Academy.

What brought you to NCT?
NCT was my first ever audition after moving to NYC. I had been in the city about 3 days at the time and thought it looked like a great place to meet chicks. I wanted to give the world the healing gift of laughter and joy.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was a kid I actually (as dorky as it sounds) wanted to be an actuary. If I hadn’t studied Theatre in college, I would’ve studied either Actuarial Mathematics or Aeronautical Engineering. No joke.

What’s your favorite movie and why?
Super Troopers! Made by the Broken Lizard guys. It has just about everything you could ever want in a comedy. Who wants a mustache ride?

Do you have a guilty pleasure movie?
I don’t think it counts as guilty pleasure but I also love Cool Runnings. I’ve always aspired to be a Jamaican bobsledder, and that movie was essentially the story of what my life could’ve/should’ve been.

Who’s the musician/band you are listening to that no one else knows but should?
David McMillin – He’s an amazing singer/songwriter who plays Acoustic guitar stuff, almost like Folk-Rock but that doesn’t quite justify it. Check out his stuff on iTunes. You won’t be disappointed!

What do you think about blueberries, in general?
I think they’re delicious unless you’re allergic to fruit. My roommate recently ate a mango, and it made her eyes swell shut.

Do we really need the color fuchsia?
I thought we did until I found out how it was spelled. Or maybe there’s just a typo in this questionnaire.

Are you a Pepper?
This is a stupid question, and I refuse to answer it.

If you could be any pastry, what would you be?

None because I don’t want to be eaten. For delicious cupcakes though, check out Billy’s Bakery on 9th Ave (around 21st St) in Chelsea. You can’t go wrong there.

What’s the worst song to get stuck in your head?
Mmm Bop by far. You start to sing it out loud, then you realize what you’re about to do, and you feel an intense shame. *Shudders*

Fame or Fortune? Why?
Either. Both allow you to drink Scotch to your heart’s desire. Also, Go Colts!

ABOUT NEW YORK:

What do you love most about NYC?
The fact that it’s not New Jersey. That, and the ladies here are great. *Cough cough* I’m single *Cough cough.*

What’s your favorite bar in NYC?
Cronin and Phelan’s. It’s this awesome Irish pub in Astoria with a really really cool Irish bartender named Dave who does magic tricks. Also turns out that I’ve been mispronouncing the name.

What’s your favorite NYC hangout?
There’s going to be this absolutely amazing lounge/performance space opening up next year called The Centre Point.  Everyone should be on the look out for it. Once it opens, I (along with every cool person I know) will be spending most of my time there.

What’s your favorite restaurant in NYC?
This one is easy. Porcao aka Rio’s Churrascaria. It’s an all-you-can-eat Brazilian steakhouse on 26th and Park. It’s like meat heaven. You get a double-sided card, one side red and the other green. Then the waiters walk around with these huge skewers of delicious meat. You turn the green side up when you want more meat and the red side up when you’re full. Of course, only pansies turn the red side up. I recommend the cheesy beef.

In your opinion, who makes the best pizza in New York?
There’s this alley in the East Village where several pizza places all throw out their trash into the same dumpster. Somehow the combination of those various types and flavors lead to a smorgasboard of wonderous taste. You never quite know what you’re gonna get (Flavor of the Day) but it’s always worth the risk. NOTE: The views expressed in this answer do not reflect the views of NCT. David lived part of his life as a hobo.

If a friend were coming to New York, what’s the one thing you would tell them to see…other than NCT, of course?
Is Guys and Dolls still open? ;)

No lie, this girl came all the way from Germany to see us. We rewarded her by playing her family in a great Dinner at Joe's scene.

All great audience members know how to torture our players in the set up for Blind Freeze...yep, pick up one leg and make 'em hold it.
